My Game Front Cover

GameFrontCover2

This piece I made for my game is the front cover. I made this on Photoshop using different types of brushes and other tools. First I drew my character and I coloured in with just a basic colour and then afterwards I went on top of the more tones and shading to it and at the end I made my title and added the Age rating to the cover to show what my game is sort of about

Game Script

Opening Cutscene Script The scene opens with a shot of a baby crawling out of a cave – in which a sauropod dinosaur grabs it with its mouth.

Cave-Baby: (Crawls out of the cave in excitement, giggling)

A lone sauropod notices the baby alone, deciding to grab it with its mouth so as to keep it for itself.

The Mother and Father enter the scene, exiting the cave in panic, looking for their baby.

They both notice that the sauropod is slowly stomping away with it – they both give chase to bring the behemoth down.

Father: (Sprints towards the sauropod with a battle-cry; gets crushed by the beast’s tail.)

Mother: (Stands in shock at the death of her husband, even taking a moment to pay respects – she then steels herself and dashes after the sauropod to rescue her baby.)

The Cave-baby, Mother and sauropod exit the scene.

Game Treatment

Overview

In this game, players control a cavewoman who travels the prehistoric lands to rescue her child from a lone dinosaur, especially since the father was killed in his attempt – during which, she discovers new words, tools and creatures.

The game will be a sidescroller with action and platforming.

The unique selling point will not only be the unique art style but the format in which you explore levels to collect ‘letters’ that will make up words – of which will highlight specific story beats or grant the player access to new tools.

The game’s art style is that of cave paintings to make the story being told more authentic since that’s how people in those times would tell their stories.

Available platforms will be the following: PC, Switch, PS4 and Xbox One since the control scheme would be versatile enough for any external input device. The game itself also shouldn’t be too graphically demanding.

The games currently on market as competition are Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Hollow Knight and My Friend Pedro.

World History and Background

The world is set in the prehistoric era where dinosaurs roam free: from gentle giants like the Brachiosaurus, the lethal Velociraptors and the iconic T-rex.

Character Backstory and Bio

The protagonist is an unnamed cavewoman who starts the game living peacefully with her child and husband – until a stray dinosaur steals it away after the two parents go out to gather resources with the assumption that the child was safely hidden.
This results in a chase by which the husband is killed by another dinosaur – forcing the cavewoman to search for the child on her own, having no means of producing another and with only one way of having any descendants.

Early in the game, she starts out as rather timid, preferring to evade danger since she’s used to having someone protect and provide for her until later in the game, where she develops the tools and courage to tackles obstacles head-on. During that point in the game, she is much more violent in her search for her child. In the final moments of the game, she becomes more empathetic, realizing that the dinosaurs have children of their own to provide for, therefore opting not to kill unless absolutely necessary.

Non-playable characters

Dinosaurs (hostile enemies to either evade or attack)

  • Small Therapods (e.g. Velociraptor) as mini enemies (like Mario’s goombas) that have attacks you actively dodge
  • Large Therapods (e.g. Allosaurus, T-Rex) to serve as bosses
  • Sauropods (e.g. Brachiosaurus) that can be part of the level: shifting and changing with or without player input

Other prehistoric animals (in the event of a more Ice-age setting) with functions respective of their dinosaur counterparts

  • Sabre-tooth tiger/Wisnets
  • Short-faced bear/Megaceros
  • Woolly Mammoth/Woolly Rhino

Genre

In terms of game design, it will be an action side-scrolling platformer with some puzzle elements.

  • Action – Fighting off/dodging pre-historic creatures
  • Platforming – Exploring levels with verticality (e.g. jungle-like environment) as well as interactivity (the aforementioned sauropods)
  • Puzzle – Finding the letters scattered that make up a word per level (spelling the word is also part of the puzzle)

In terms of media genre, it will be an action-adventure type of game.

Audience

The target demographic of this game would be ages 12-16 and above since the art style would lend itself to violence that would potentially be rather graphic (specifically using blood).
